YOGA FOR KIDS Saturdays 11:00 to 12:30 Children pay only half the adult rate any class they may attend at Yoga & Inner Peace.
This class will be open to children ages three to nine. Parents may drop their children off before eleven and attend the eleven o'clock open class. Kids and Yoga? Bharata had an interesting experience which young children and yoga back in the summer of 1980. During the month of July, he was a counselor at the Yoga Kids Camp at the Sivananda Ashram in Val Morin, Quebec, Canada. At the time, children as young as three were allowed in Kids Camp. (The age limit now is seven.) Bharata was a counselor with the youngest group, children three to five. All of the campers went to a children's meditation each morning and evening and had a children's yoga class each evening. In addition to field trips, swimming and many other activities, the children ate three vegetarian meals each day. One of the five-year olds still stands out vividly in his mind. This was a little girl who had Downs Syndrome. This happy, almost always smiling child had been raised very lovingly. Before coming to Yoga Kids Camp she had been unable to walk down a hill unassisted. Someone always had to hold her hand. When, at the end of the four-week session, her parents came to pick her up, she was standing at the top of a hill with some other campers. Upon spotting her parents at the bottom of the hill, she ran (unassisted) to her parents. Tears of joy were streaming down her parents cheeks. Bharata's own children (who are now adults) attended these month-long Yoga Kids Camp every summer from about age 4 to 14. Children pay only half the adult rate any class they may attend at Yoga & Inner Peace.

What a great combination! Children get a lot from yoga. They see that there is an alternative to experiences which always stimulate their senses. They get glimpses of quiet and peace inside of themselves, something they can never experience from external stimuli.
